All Class 1 or Class 2 Licence Holders must complete CPD requirements, set out by NSW Fair Trading, to remain compliant.

Failure to do so can result in loss or suspension of licence.

NSW Fair Trading has released new details for the 2024-2025 year:

  • The new CPD year is 1 July 2024 – 30 June 2025
  • Class 1 & Class 2 Licence Holders must complete 5 hours of training on compulsory topics
  • Training must include at least 4 compulsory topics relevant to your area of practice
  • This must take place in a live or virtual interactive environment
  • If you cannot complete the 5 hours of training in an interactive environment, you may complete 10 hours of training online

Property Managers

You Must Complete:

5 Hours Compulsory Training

4 Compulsory Topics

  • Compliance with Habitability Standards
  • Introduction to Work Health & Safety
  • New Supervision Guidelines 2024
  • Understanding Strata Laws
Sales Representatives

You Must Complete:

5 Hours Compulsory Training

3 Compulsory Topics

  • Introduction to Work Health & Safety
  • New Supervision Guidelines 2024
  • Understanding Strata Laws

4th topic must be completed through TAFE: NSW Fair Trading Underquoting Course

Certificate of Registration (Assistant Agents)

You must complete at least 3 units each CPD year from a valid Certificate IV qualification that is required to obtain the issue of a Class 2 Agent Licence in Real Estate.

Assistant Agents may complete any 3 units from their Certificate IV qualification.

FAQs

Can I carry over CPD from past years?

No, new CPD arrangements do not provide for carry over from one year to the next, except Assistant Agents, as the must complete ongoing units related to their Certificate IV qualifications

Do I have to keep record of my CPD training and for how long?

Licence & certificate holders must keep record of their own compulsory and additional topics completed. Licence holders (class 1 & 2) must retain all records for 3 years. Certificate of Registration holders must retain records for 4 years.

All licence and certificate holders must provide evidence to NSW Fair Trading of completed CPD requirements.

Can I be granted exemption from completing CPD requirements?
No exemptions will be granted to individuals who fail to complete the required CPD withing the allocated period.
Are there any additional requirements for Principals this year?

Yes – the Supervision Guidelines have been amended, requiring Licensees in Charge to prepare and maintain a training plan for all agents under their supervision.

What if I hold more than one licence?

You will need to complete additional topics relevant to your category. Please follow this link to NSW Fair Trading for further information

Am I required to do CPD if I am an Assistant Agent (Certificate of Registration)?
